Transformation Takes Time
In our highly automated, hyper connected lives, we’ve become conditioned to on-demand everything. From real-time text message based communication to same day delivery services, we’re used to getting what we want exactly when we want it. But here’s the thing— transformative growth takes time.
"Just because it’s taking time
doesn’t mean it’s not happening.”
We should give ourselves the grace to understand that growth is a practice. One that may ebb and flow in its capacity, progress, and presence in our lives.
We need to build a relationship to personal growth. Nurture it. Create space for it. Prioritize it. Be patient with it. Protect it like a valued friendship.
We also need a support system-mentors, allies, and cheerleaders- to keep us going. Find your tribe of people who will encourage, support & enable you. Then lean into those peeps when you feel frustrated, stagnant and/or ready to celebrate your progress.
And first and foremost, put your judgement on pause. We can be our own harshest critics but this self directed negative energy can hinder our growth. So instead of judging yourself just observe, take note & reflect. And offer yourself the type of love & support you’d hope to receive from others.
Here are a few ways you can support yourself in the process:
Set incremental, achievable milestones - small steps add up to big change.
Reward yourself along the way - give yourself healthy motivators.
Make room for rest - allow space to turn off the doing and just be.
As you move along the journey, keep in mind that you’re actually rewiring your brain as you transform & change. Woah! You’ll be building new neural pathways, new connections in your mind. Curious? Check out this brief video on the brain.
Remember that learning is a life long process. Transformative change takes time. And once you get started, you’re already doing it.
