The Golden Thread
One of the beautiful things about faith is that it can never run out. Our ability to believe, to trust, to leap is ever abundant.
For those of us who believe, we can see the golden thread that binds us all together. As people, we move and breathe as one.
The ebb and flow of the earth, that magnetic pulse that powers our days and nights, is the rhythm of our lives. And if we just take pause, take a moment, we too can feel that heartbeat right in our chests.
I’ll never stop believing….
In what makes us human. To love, to laugh, to learn, to explore, to give, to receive.
In championing the rights of people like myself and the many incredible people I’ve crossed paths with on this wild ride of life.
In imagining and creating a life where I feel safe, free & can receive the type of love that I have always deserved.
But for a world like this to exist, we all have to believe … in each other, in the possibilities of our collective future, in creating the type of world that we want to live in. Start showing up. Contribute. Help make progress possible.
If you’re looking for a source of inspiration, check out the book What Truth Sounds Like by Michael Eric Dyson. I picked this book up a couple of years ago, I think, because it tells the powerful true story of a moment in time in 1963 when Attorney General Robert Kennedy brought a group of non-politicians in for challenging discussions around race, freedom, civil rights, and all that swirls around these social topics. This collective was anchored by American writer and Civil Rights activist James Baldwin and also included playwright Lorraine Hansberry, activist Jerome Smith, and other influential thinkers.
In 2023, I took on the challenge of joining the collective at Reset Tech where we aimed to hold Big Tech Accountable for the sake of democracy. That sounds like a meaty mission, and it was and it is. I partnered with Researchers, Technologists, Policy Makers and more intelligent humans across the world as we collectively worked to sustain global democracy while also keeping our friends, families, and communities informed back home. It was an arduous task, and one that I have the paid the price for dearly.
But you see, it is my faith of Nichiren Buddhism that tells us that we can turn poison into medicine. And it is my understanding of math, physics, psychology, and human nature that gives me hope in the state of the world because I can see a future where we have all of the resources that we need, the space to enjoy our lives, and the comfort of family, friends & a home.
So I ask you now, what about your faith? Do you believe?
